A. Part I English for Business Communication (Compulsory English)
The syllabus of B. A. Part I Comp.
English helps the students to get the practical knowledge in the specific area
of vocabulary, synonyms, and antonyms, Narration, English for General Purposes,
Making Inquiries, Telephonic Communication, and Description. They get the knowledge of English literature
i. e. prose and poetry also. On Saying Please by A. G. Gardiner, In Passion’s
Shadow by Mohan Rakesh, My School by Rabindranath Tagore and All the World is a
Stage - William Shakespeare. The Lost Child by Mulk Raj Anand, To My Countrymen
- APJ Abdul Kalam, A Village Girl by Mohan Singh, My Elder Brother by Premchand.
The poems The Solitary Reaper By William
Wordsworth, The Street by Kusumagraj, The Tiger by William Blake, A Poet by Chandrakant
Patil develop an aesthetic attitude among the students. They learn communication
skills and improve the language competence of the students to write correct
English, they successfully can deal with routine matters. They inculcate human
values among them through poetry and prose. They learn about using the English language in
daily life. They know about how to ask the questions in different situations
they are in. The students get acquainted with communication skills. They
inculcate human values through poems and prose. Also, they improve their
language competence.
B.
A. Part I- Optional English
The students of B. A. Part I get acquainted
with translated Modern Indian literature in English. They are introduced to Short
Story as a Minor Form of Literature: Characteristic Features and
Short Story as a Minor Form of Literature: Types. They develop literary
competence among students by the study of short stories such as Premchand ‘The
Shroud’, Saratchandra Chatterji ‘Laloo’, Gurdial Singh ‘A Season of No Return’,
Fakir Mohan Senapati ‘Rebati’ and poems like Light, Oh Where is the Light? And When
My Play Was With Thee by Rabindra Nath Tagore, I Say Unto Waris Shah by Amrita
Pritam, The Void and So Very Far by G. M. Muktibodh. They also learn about the
dramatic techniques by the study of a play The Dread Departure (Mahanirvan) by
Satish Alekar. The students of the first year of B. A. Part I, who offer
Optional English can learn about the different types of English literature and Modern
Indian Writing in English Translation. In the first year of their course, they
come to know about the history of English literature. The short stories create
interest among the students about short stories. The poetry makes them able to
see the world from the aesthetic point of view among them.
B. A. Part II English for
Communication
B. A. Part II Compulsory English
syllabus is designed to develop various skills among students. The students are
enabled to develop communication skills in English, both oral & written. They
learn language skills and develop essential employability skills. They use them
in their personal, academic & professional lives. With all these skills the
students enter the job market with confidence &the ability to work
effectively. The students get involved actively in the learning process. The
students are enabled to cultivate a board, human & cultured outlook.
B. A. Part II- Optional English
The students of B. A. Part II learn
to get acquainted with Language and Linguistics Phonetics and Phonology,
speech
mechanism, Morphology and Syntax, the concepts of Semantics and Pragmatics,
Basic Clause Patterns, Simple Sentences and Complex Sentences in general. This
study makes them good at grammar in English.
The paper of Literature and Cinema creates interest
among the students about media and its relation to literature. The Comedy of Errors and Five Point Someone are the texts which
in this way are related to the movies Angoor
and Three Idiots respectively. The
study of texts deals with the concept of adaptation. The students are
introduced to film and its relationship to literature. A critical approach is
developed among the students after learning the adaptation works. They acquire film
literacy through a working knowledge of basic film terminology. A clear
understanding of literature is established among the students through film
adaptations of literary texts.
B. Com. Part I English for Business

On Smiles by A. G. Gardiner, The Unknown Citizen by W. H. Auden, Panch
Parameshvar by Premchand, Kabuliwala by Rabindranath Tagore, Offering in the
Temple by Desika Pillai and Felling of the Bunyan Tree by Dilip Chitre.
It also
includes
the stories like The Necklace by Guy de Maupassant, Why
does the child Cry by Mulk Raj Anand, I Thank You God by Bernard Dadie and the
poems like War by Luigi Pirandello, The Cuckoo by William Wordsworth, Let Me
Not…. By William Shakespeare
B.Com. Part II English
for Business Communication
The students of B. Com. Part II learn the Oral and written
skills, language
skills for use in their personal, academic and professional lives, Conversation
Skills, English for Competitive Examination – I, E-Communication, English for
Competitive Examination – II, English for Banking and Industries which helps
them in their practical life. They develop among the students essential
employability skills. Students enter the job market with confidence and the
ability to work effectively. They learn to practice both language and soft
skills and involve actively in the learning process. The students cultivate a
broad, human and cultured outlook after studying the textbook. The prose
section includes the stories like Phenomenal Woman – Maya Angelou, The
Childless One – Jai Nimbkar, Those Winter Sundays – Robert Hayden, Four Minutes
that get you Hired–Connie Brown Glaser and Barbara Steinberg Smalley, Stormy
Arrival in South Africa – Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, My Financial Career –

Sc. Part I English for Communication
The
students of B. Sc. Part I are enabled to develop their vocabulary, Narration,
Description, Telephonic Communication, English for Specific Purposes, Putting
Data to Effective Use - Satish Tripathi, Technology with a Human Face – E.F.
Schumacher and English for Advertising. The syllabus also includes life
experiences of great leaders like Martin Luther King in his I Have a Dream, The
Auspicious Vision by Tagore. The poems like How Beautiful by P. K. Padhy, As a
Flower I Come by Sundaram, The Book by Iftikar Rizvi, Lost Forest by Johannes
Jensen, Stopping by Woods by Robert Frost give a kind of delight to them. The
text prescribed for B. Sc. Part I students in this way enables them to form an
aesthetic outlook.
Programme Outcome
B.
A. Part III- Compulsory English
When the students complete the 3-year
degree course they learn to use different communication skills like developing
vocabulary, group discussion, letter writing, report writing, interview
techniques which are useful for them when they enter the practical world around
them and search different job opportunities. The prose and poetry section helps
them to learn ways of behavior and think about finding out aesthetic pleasure
in the work of art in literature.
B.
Sc. Part III- English for Communication
B. Sc. Part III students learn
about Vocabulary, Avoiding Errors, Organizing a Passage, Interview techniques, Report
Writing, Group Discussion, etc. and become perfect in all these skills for
future opportunities in their career. The units such as Building Nation, Tiger
in the Tunnel, speech by Sudha Murty, cultural heritage and the poems
prescribed for B. Sc. Part III students help them to widen their attitude
towards the world. The communication units help them in their career for job
opportunities and self-employment etc.
Programme Specific Outcome
B.
A. Part III- Special English
When the students
complete the 3-year degree course in Special English, they become able to understand
& use the English language effectively, build vocabulary and introduce
current ideas, and issues. Along with the introduction of Indian Culture, the
students learn about novel, drama, poetry, non-fictional prose, literature,
linguistics and philosophy of the English language. Students get job
opportunities such as translator, faculty teacher, English trainer, data entry
operator, English tutor, customer support services, and Call- Centre executive,
etc. In this way, students become successful in their careers. Different papers
like Literary Criticism, Understanding Poetry, Understanding Drama, Understanding
Novel, and Linguistics prescribed for B. A. Part III students enable them to
enter the outer world successfully in their career and achieve the job
opportunities.
